Biologists from Point Blue Conservation Science have been monitoring the population size, reproductive success, and diet of seabirds in the Farallon Islands for more than 50 years. Long-term datasets produced by this program are essential to biologists’ understanding of seabird population health in the past, present, and future.
A 2023 grant to Point Blue provided funding to continue this keystone data program, keeping “boots on the ground” in the Farallon Islands to maintain the critical knowledge base that it has developed over the past 50 years. Data produced by this program is used by numerous management agencies to understand how climate change is affecting birds, fish, and other wildlife of the Farallon Islands and surrounding region and to determine how to best manage these species and ecosystems into the future.
