Biologists from Point Blue Conservation Science have been monitoring the population size, reproductive success, and diet of seabirds in the Farallon Islands for more than 50 years. Long-term datasets produced by this program are essential to biologists’ understanding of seabird population health in the past, present, and future.
Due to budget cuts across the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2025, Point Blue would have been unable continue their year-round presence in the Farallon Islands and critical monitoring and stewardship activites would have been lost. A two year pledge of support from the Farallon Islands Foundation (2025 & 2026) provided funding to help keep Point Blue staff on the island, continue critical long-term datasets, and provide vital protection for Farallon wildlife.
